Abstract

Girimulyo Village is located in a protected forest area used by the community for avocado farming through agroforestry and monoculture systems, requiring land management aligned with conservation and sustainability principles. This study aims to analyze the management of avocado farming using agroforestry and monoculture systems in protected forest areas. The study was conducted in September-October 2025 in Girimulyo Village, East Lampung Regency. Data analysis used descriptive methods with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation of avocado farmers. The results showed that avocado farming management in both systems was similar at the nursery and planting stages, including the use of selected avocado seedlings and the arrangement of planting distances and times according to land conditions, but differed in land preparation, maintenance, and harvesting. Management using the agroforestry system tends to preserve natural vegetation, apply adaptive maintenance, and harvest in stages, while the monoculture system applies total land clearing, uniform maintenance, and simultaneous harvesting. The avocado agroforestry system is more sustainable than monoculture in protected forest areas because it maintains vegetation, ecological functions, and environmental balance.
